Dreaming of some absolution

After my Burger King dream from last night, I had another dream about returning to CNN again.

In my dream, I returned to the 5th floor of the CNN Center inside the wonderful world of Media Operations.  I returned to the place where I used to work for nine of the last 11 years with the cable news network.

Before I started to work on my first edit assignment or check into iNews on my computer, I could see someone familiar out in the distance.  That man was one of my former managers in Media Operations.

He was the man who hired me to be an editor in 2002.  I showed up to make a triumphant return to CNN after a 7 year hiatus from the network.  I think he was smiling at me, patting me on the back, happy to see me, and even high-fiving me upon my return.  I was excited to get back to work and show the world I was a serious CNN worker once again.

Even some of my former Edit Supervisors and Senior Media Producers were happy that I came back and that I had the right attitude to get the work done.

In reality, my comeback to CNN is not to be.  I don't think I'll ever see my former manager again, and I don't know if I can rise to the level I once gained while working for CNN.

I will work hard for my family and I will do better in not taking my job for granted again.

Dreaming of Burger King

Last Night, I had a dream where I was in line at a local Burger King.

I stood in line with a co-worker and Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade.  I was going to order a triple cheeseburger with mayonnaise and a soda.  I was getting ready to pay for it before someone already paid it forward for me.  Right then, I didn't know if I should pay it forward to the next person.  So I did nothing.

I go to the soda fountain to pour some Coke Zero with a little lime.  I drink that, and then I go to the soda fountain again.  Only the next time, I pour some Mello Yello.  I love soda.  I could drink a fast food restaurant out of its entire soft drink supply if I wanted to.

Later on in the dream, I was waiting for my burger to arrive.  Keep in mind I was still inside a Burger King.  I could almost taste the Whopper-like sandwich in my mouth.  Minutes later, I saw someone say my last name (IRWIN) as if he was delivering my food to me.

This was different.  Someone wearing a McDonald's uniform called my name for a triple cheeseburger.  Needless to say I did not take the food and waited endlessly for my Burger King burger.

After that, I transitioned to a new dream.

Dreaming of the old Los Angeles Sports Arena

On August 11th this year, I had a dream that I was standing outside of the old Los Angeles Sports Arena.  It was a clear blue sky outside in Los Angeles.  I was standing outside with a CBS46 co-worker.  I was looking a little bit up and out toward the turquoise roof of the sports arena.

I don't remember what I was supposed to be doing there or why I was out there in the first place.  Was  i longing for a simpler time from long ago?  Was I searching for a miracle Los Angeles Clippers team that could go to great heights?  Was I wanting to go in but something didn't allow me to do so?

I just remember standing outside somewhere in California.  I was taking in the good weather and good atmosphere in the sunshine.  In the dream, I remember the nearly six decade building as a shiny beacon in a section of LA.

In reality, I woke up.  My family and I were on our way to the Butterfly festival in Dunwoody, Georgia.

I have not been to California in 10 years (Los Angeles in nearly 11).  I never attended a single sporting event in the now torn-down Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

I saw a lot of games (on TV) that were broadcast from the Sports Arena.  Those included USC Basketball, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Ice Dogs (IHL), and some of the 1992 NCAA Women's Final Four.

Today, a soccer stadium (Banc of California Stadium) sits on what used to be sports arena real estate.

I have never been to a Major League Soccer game and I hope to get the chance to do so one day.  I hope to return to California with my family for a visit.  I want to do so in glory.  Glory!
