    THE PURCHASE PRICE IS DOUBLE WHAT THE FRANCHISE IS WORTH.
    THE DEAL ALSO INCLUDES OPERATING CONTROL OF PHILIPS ARENA.
    THE HAWKS FINISHED WITH A RECORD OF 60-AND-22, THEIR BEST RECORD SINCE MOVING TO ATLANTA IN 19-68.
     THE TEAM IS CURRENTLY IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS WITH THE BROOKLYN NETS.

     MONICA PEARSON HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH LIVER CANCER.
     SHE SAID SHE GOT THE DIAGNOSIS IN DECEMBER AND HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE HALF HER LIVER A MONTH LATER.
     THIS IS PEARSON'S SECOND BOUT WITH CANCER AS SHE BATTLED BREAST CANCER IN 19-98.
     PEARSON SPENT 37 YEARS WITH W-S-B BEFORE RETIRING FROM THE ANCHOR CHAIR THREE YEARS AGO.


 GEORGIA SOUTHERN FATAL CRASH

     TRAGEDY STRUCK THE GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FAMILY ON WEDNESDAY.

     FIVE NURSING STUDENTS DIED AFTER A TRACTOR TRAILER CRASHED INTO THEIR VEHICLE 20 MILES WEST OF SAVANNAH.
     TWO OF THE FIVE VICTIMS WERE FROM METRO ATLANTA.
     EMILY CLARK WAS FROM POWDER SPRINGS AND CATHERINE PITTMAN McKAY WAS FROM ALPHARETTA.
     ALL FIVE STUDENTS WERE ON THEIR WAY TO SAVANNAH FOR THEIR FINAL DAY OF TRAINING AT A HOSPITAL IN THE SCHOOL YEAR.


FALCONS VISIT FORT GORDON

     FALCONS' OFFENSIVE LINEMAN JOE HAWLEY CALLED OUT COMMANDS TO 'TROOPS' INSIDE A CAMOUFLAGE-THEMED CLASSROOM.
     HIS TEAM SIMULATED SHOOTING BANK ROBBERS, LANDING 16 'KILLS'. 
     SOME OF THE SOLDIERS MET THEIR GRIDIRON HEROES AT A PEP RALLY AFTER THE TEAM INVITED THEM TO AN EXCLUSIVE LUNCH ON THE BASE.
     NEW FALCONS' HEAD COACH DAN QUINN GAINED A BETTER APPRECIATION FOR WHAT SOLDIERS DO.

CONVICTED MAN TO GET NEW TRIAL
     (TAKE VO)
     A WEST GEORGIA MAN IS A FREE MAN AFTER SERVING NEARLY EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON.
    ON MONDAY, THE GEORGIA SUPREME COURT THREW OUT JUSTIN CHAPMAN'S CONVICTION IN THE 2006 ARSON DEATH OF HIS BREMEN LANDLORD ALICE JOHNSON.
    THE STATE'S HIGH COURT SAID THAT HARALSON COUNTY PROSECUTORS DID NOT DISCLOSE SOME KEY EVIDENCE FROM ONE OF ITS WITNESSES.     THAT WOULD INCLUDE A VIDEOTAPED JAILHOUSE INTERVIEW BY JOSEPH WHITE WHO SAID HE WANTED A DEAL IN EXCHANGE FOR HIS TESTIMONY.
     PROSECUTORS FROM THE COUNTY WILL HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO RETRY THE CASE.
